Arteta feels individual brilliance is the next evolution…
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta wants his side to expand the variety of goals they score and believes individual brilliance in the final third needs to be added to his side.
Speaking ahead of our trip to Fulham on Sunday, as we look to exercise the demons from almost 12 months ago, Arteta addressed our perceived over-reliance on corners.
We closed the gap on league-leaders Liverpool to just seven points thanks to two goals from corners against a timid Manchester United side at the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta stated that while he’s proud of our record from dead-ball situations, he believes the team can improve in terms of individual moments in the final third.
The Spaniard’s system is designed to isolate our wingers against the opposition full-back, and while Bukayo Saka thrives in that situation, we’ve struggled to replicate that on the left side.
When asked the level he want his team to reach, the boss replied: “Do we have the best individuals to create magic moments every three days? No, so we are on it.
“I think that way,” Arteta said when asked if his goal is too ambitious (via HaytersTV).
“We are going to score three magic goals every game. That’s the objective, that’s the project. We score one? That’s good, we want two and then three.
“It’s not gonna happen overnight but it’s a lot of the things that we put targets (on) that you thought, ‘it’s impossible.’ They have become a reality.”
While Arteta backs himself to improve the players at this disposal, wanting more ‘moments’ from this team can only be achieved by delving into the transfer market.
Arteta and Edu received huge praise for the recruitment choices they’ve made in building this squad, but the one blind spot has been the lack of investment in the forward line.
Our attack is single-handedly being carried by Bukayo Saka, a generational talent from our academy. During his tenure, Arteta has spent a transfer fee on two genuine attackers – Gabriel Jesus and Leandro Trossard.
That’s where we can improve in the next few transfer windows.
