Mo Salah Reveals The Advice From Arsene Wenger He Continues To Live By

Mo Salah putting Wenger’s words to practice…

Liverpool forward Mo Salah has revealed that he still lives based on the advice given to him by Arsene Wenger when the Frenchman visited Melwood a few years ago.

Salah, who’s already reached double figures in goal involvement in the Premier League this season, asked Wenger what made great players stand out from good players.

As expected, Wenger’s answer was a philosophical one and can only be taken on board by the elite players in our game.

This conversation happened in 2021, when Wenger visited Melwood training ground to hand Liverpool figures their FIFA award trophies.

Jurgen Klopped was handed his silverware alongside the likes of Trent-Alexander Arnold, Virgil Van Dijk and Alisson.

“I got advice from Arsene Wenger before. He was at Melwood at the time and I asked him what the difference is between a good player and a really, really good player,” the Egyptian told Liverpool’s official website.

“He said, ‘I think the very, very good player is always focused in the game, even if he doesn’t have the momentum, he stays in the game until the last minute or until the whistle.

“For me, I know there are some games when I don’t have the momentum, I don’t have the game. But I’m always focused in the game to finish stuff so I don’t mind that.”

It illustrates Wenger’s standing in the game that the very best players still want to discuss football with him despite his coaching days being behind him.

Bukayo Saka had a similar encounter with the former Gunners boss following the 2022 World Cup when Wenger returned to the Emirates for the first time since his departure.

Saka finally met Wenger that day after we defeated West Ham 3-1, with the winger asking for tips on what to work on. Wenger suggested the 23-year-old should find ways to use his right foot more.

Sound advice.
