Ian Wright hoping Liverpool thrashing proves to the board that we need players…

Arsenal hero Ian Wright stated that the thrashing at Anfield will hopefully be enough to show the board that this squad needs major surgery and is hoping to see some activity in the upcoming transfer window.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel, Wright believes all our flaws were brutally exposed and while there need to be a few incomings, he believes many players need to be moved on.

Without naming names, our former record goalscorer claimed that a few players Unai Emery named in the starting lineup are not good enough to play for Arsenal.

It was a night where not one player could emerge from it feeling satisfied, though a few specific players were more disgraced than others.

The entire defensive line had a chaotic evening which was further highlighted by Emery’s decision to hook Shkodran Mustafi off at half-time.

Stephan Lichsteiner seemed at fault for two of the opening four goals, with his age and lack acclimatisation in the Premier League proving too much to bear.

“We’ve got to move players on that need to be moved on,” a deflated Wright said.

“What that showed me is we need players, there are three or four players in that starting lineup that should be moved on or farmed out because we need to start to progress.

“Hopefully that result will start to release some funds for Unai.”

Following a summer of upheaval and with a new regime charge, Emery is no longer in charge of transfers – that responsibility lies with Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat.

Emery has hinted that he could do with some numbers, especially following the season-ending injuries to Rob Holding and Danny Welbeck.

January will tell us how different this regime is to the last one or – if indeed – it’s more of the same.
