Jose Mourinho is still clearly upset at what he perceives to be mind games on Arsene Wenger’s part after Alexandre Lacazette played 90 minutes against Manchester United days after he was ruled out of the clash.
Lacazette was withdrawn at half-time against Huddersfield with a groin problem, a soft tissue injury which very rarely allows a player to take to the field days later.
Mourinho has been known to indulge similar tactics before big games and he seems rather irritated that he’s now on the other end of it, despite the fact that it had little effect on the final score.
Ahead of Man United Champions League clash against CSKA Moscow, the former Chelsea boss couldn’t resist a dig at Wenger and Pep Guardiola when giving an update on his team’s injury news.
“Do you want the truth?” Mourinho said, with an expression which indicated that the punchline was coming.
“The truth is [Eric] Bailly, no chance. [Phil] Jones and [Marouane] Fellaini a chance. Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] a big chance and [Nemanja] Matic is injured but will play.
“No stories of Lacazette, [David] Silva. All the truth.”
Mourinho is an odd individual.
His team took all three points against us on Saturday and set-up a crucial showdown against Manchester City on Sunday in the hopes of keeping their season alive, yet he’s bothered by Lacazette starting for us.
One wonders how Wenger will reply to this latest jibe.
