Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain apologised to the fans for the awful display the team produced at The Hawthorns in our damaging 3-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion as we dropped down to 6th in the league.

After recovering from a poor start with an Alexis Sanchez equaliser in the first 15 minutes of the game, we failed to refocus on the task in-hand and gave two horrendous goals away in the second half.

Petr Cech went off with a calf problem and it was a David Ospina calamity which led to Hal Robson-Kanu’s goal as West Brom went 2-1 up, though it was their third goal which caused the most fury.

Craig Dawson was once again allowed to waltz into the box and fire home a header from the corner, and The Ox felt compelled to apologise for such a tepid defensive performance.

“We need as many three points as we can get. We’re bitterly disappointed and we’re sorry to the fans,” The Ox told Sky Sports.

“It’s not acceptable for Arsenal football club to lose in the way we did today.

“I’m not sure it’s going to get any easier so we’ve just got to battle our way out of this.”

Oxlade-Chamberlain was also quick to deflect attention from Arsene Wenger by insisting that the boss had repeatedly warned the players about the threat from set-pieces that Tony Pulis’ side poses.

However, it happened in the first-half and clearly didn’t trigger a response in the dressing room at the interval which is slightly alarming.

If Wenger did warn the squad about West Brom’s threats, the fact that they refused to take it on board speaks volumes about the current situation we’re in.
