Paul Merson: Arsenal Can Expect The Same Next Season If They Don’t Overhaul Squad

Paul Merson calls for radical changes at Arsenal…

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson feels Arsene Wenger needs to undertake major surgery this summer or face similar results next season after what’s been a poor league campaign.

Wenger’s future is also up in the air with no word on a possible extension, though Merson feels another rebuilding job is required if we’re to end our Premier League drought.

A number of questions need answering during the close season, none more important than the future of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, both of whom have less than 18 months on their deals.

Those two are joined by the likes of Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Kieran Gibbs and Santi Cazorla whose contracts run out in 2018.

“If you keep on doing the same things, you get the same results in anything in life,” Merson told Jeff Stelling on Soccer Saturday.

“If this team stays together, they’ll be where they are now, where they’ve been the last eight years that this team’s been together.

“Fourth, third, fifth, between them. They need to bring in some fresh blood.

“It’s too comfortable, it’s ‘nice’ at Arsenal.”

While he may not make the brightest points, few can question the passion and love Merson has for the club he served for many years.

Merson has been consistent in his criticisms of Arsene Wenger and the club, much to the dislike of the boss.

However, we’re yet to prove the doubters wrong while consistently making the same errors in front of the world.
