Paul Merson: Arsenal Will Get Thrashed Soon

Paul Merson isn’t buying our winning run and predicts a big loss in the near future…

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson isn’t being swayed by our winning run and claims that we’re set to be on the wrong end of a big score with our defence, Sky Sports reports.

Fresh off our 5-1 win away at Fulham, Merson claims that game and many others have shown him that we’re very poor at the back and those frailties will be exposed.

We’ve conceded 10 goals eight league games this season, though we’ve only leaked one goal in our last three Premier League outings.

Having said that, we have given away a number of chances this season and it’s something Unai Emery has highlighted himself. For Merson, though, he can’t see any improvement on the horizon and believes one club will make us pay soon.

“Sooner or later they will be on the end of a big score – defensively they are all over the place,” Merson said on Sky Sports’ The Debate show.

“The one thing that gets them out of trouble is that they’re always going to score goals. But defensively, they are just not good enough.”

Merson loves an exaggerated statement and while we do need to work on our defensive shape, predicting a thrashing is somewhat irrational.

We’ve already come up against the most ruthless and talented attacking side in Manchester City and only conceded two – our first competitive game under Emery.

That being said, we seriously need to find a way to stop giving away the volume of chances we currently are.
