Pogba advises his former club…
Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba has suggested that his old club should look to Arsenal’s recent resurgence as a blueprint for reclaiming their spot at the top of English football, Sky Sports reports.
Pogba, who left United to re-join Juventus in 2022, has been following the Premier League closely and believes that the Red Devils need to focus on rebuilding the squad with a clear, long-term vision, similar to what Arsenal have done under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal, after years of mediocrity, have been transformed into genuine challengers in both domestic and European competitions under Arteta’s tutelage. Back-to-back second-place finishes behind Pep Guardiola’s all-conquering Manchester City side have seen the Gunners viewed as likely disruptors.
Man Utd now find themselves in a similar predicament to where we were before Arteta took over the reins and started his project to return Arsenal to the pinnacle of English football.
Speaking after his four-year ban for taking performance-enhancing drugs was reduced to 18 months, Pogba had some words of advice for his former club.
“I think there is a lot of media on Manchester United, I think they need time and you need to talk about the club at the top. I think they need time,” the 31-year-old said.
“For example, if you look at Arsenal, they had a long time to get back to the top and right now they are dominating the league with Manchester City and Liverpool.
“It’s a big club, it’s Manchester United and I think and believe they will come back to the top one day but the reality is that right now they are not at the top.”
I think Arteta’s biggest legacy is encouraging other struggling clubs to be patient with their underperforming managers in the hope that they will turn their situation around.
They often ignore the glaring mitigating circumstances and the context around Arteta’s start. However, instead of explaining, Arsenal fans should just nod and agree.
Keep Eric Ten Hag and remain patient, he’ll come good!
