Pep Guardiola believes Unai Emery has assembled a strong squad in the close season…

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola included Arsenal in the list of title challengers this season and insisted that Unai Emery has assembled a very strong squad following a productive summer.

Speaking to the press ahead of the champions’ clash against Spurs, Guardiola claimed that Man City are in for yet another tough battle against their top-six rivals.

Last season, the Sky Blues were in a two-horse race against Liverpool and eventually pipped them by just single point, with the two reaching a tally of 98 and 97 respectively.

Manchester City finished 28 points ahead of us last season and it would be rather unrealistic to expect us to bridge that gap in the space of a few months.

The club has made it clear that getting back into the Champions League is the sole objective, though it is nice to hear that the Spaniard still keeping an eye on what’s taking place at Arsenal.

“Arsenal, they bought good players,” the former Barcelona boss said (via HaytersTV).

“With Pepe, with David Luiz, and people in front like Lacazette and Aubameyang, Ceballos is also incredible and a top player in Spain with good movement and quality.”

It will be interesting to see how Unai Emery attacks the big games this term given the attacking options at his disposal. The Basque manager was often conservative in his set-up and didn’t seem to believe we had the firepower to hurt the best teams.

We certainly improved in our record against the top six, but we rarely dominated in any of those games.

Fans now believe we have the options to go toe-to-toe with many of the country’s elite clubs on any given day.
