Pep Guardiola respects the foundations laid by Arsene Wenger
Pep Guardiola hailed Arsene Wenger as the man who made the Premier League what it is today after the boss announced his decision to step down at the end of the season.
Tributes have been flowing through from the world of football to mark an end of an era and after clinching the Premier League title last week, Guardiola accepts that he wouldn’t have been managing here if it wasn’t for Wenger.
Wenger was the first non-British manager to lift the Premier League after winning the double in his first full season as Arsenal boss.
He would go on to clinch two more league titles and seven more FA Cups, making him the most decorated man in the famous cup’s history.
However, as his modern powers dwindled, Guardiola refuses to forget the groundwork laid by the Frenchman for managers such as himself.
“He has all of my respect for what he has done,” the former Barcelona boss told reporters.
“The Premier League is about huge personalities like Arsene.
“It is what it is because of what he has done, his vision. I wish him all the best in the future. I hope he can be involved in world football in a different way with his experience.
“At Arsenal, UEFA, FIFA, I don’t know.”
I’m sure many would agree with Pep – football still needs men like Arsene Wenger.
