Arsenal goalkeeper Petr Cech spoke of his excitement at the changes currently being implemented by Unai Emery despite losing 2-0 in our opening league game, Sky Sports reports.

Cech, despite the arrival of Bernd Leno, has kept his place as our number one and the 36-year-old was tasked with starting our attacks with his feet against Manchester City.

He experienced a few hairy moments, including one that looked like Cech had just passed the ball into his own net. However, despite the public criticism, the former Chelsea man is enjoying this change of tack.

“I have to say that I enjoy it because I played under different managers with different styles and over most of my career I was always asked to play long, so this is a pleasant change for me,” Cech said after the game.

“It will be very useful when you want to beat a team who controls the game through possession.

“You need to create the superiority in the back when you build up and obviously today they are very used to playing a high press and they did it very well.”

Cech is right and his attitude is one we must all embrace: we wanted change, it’s time we embraced it in all its glory. It was never going to be quick and immediately fruitful, but there’s clearly a plan we can all get behind.

Facing one of the Premier League’s best ever sides on the opening day was always going to expose our teething problems and regardless of the progress made in training, Emery will now find out about his players.
