Petr Cech announced that he’s retiring from international football this week following Czech Republic’s exit from the European Championships in France.

At 34, Cech is the record appearance holder in the history of Czech football and has transformed into one of the game’s greats over the past decade.

“I reached the point where If I want to continue doing things 100% every day like I’ve always been doing, then probably I will need more time to get the rest,” Cech told Arsenal Player.

Given the strenuous campaign which awaits us in four competitions next term, Cech doesn’t think his body will be able to handle the additional trips across Europe for the World Cup qualifiers.

His international career failed to mirror his club achievements, with the height of his achievements coming in Euro 2004 as a Czech Republic side led by Pavel Nedved reached the last four.

Check out Cech’s thoughts on his international retirement, as well as his best memories for the Czech Republic.
