German football expert Raphael Honigstein has reported that there is a huge rift currently taking place at Dortmund, which is likely to see head coach Thomas Tuchel leave the club this summer.
It stems from the quarter-final first-leg clash against Monaco when the Dortmund team bus was ambushed on the way to the game with explosives.
Marc Bartra sustained a serious arm injury and, while the game was postponed, UEFA forced the German side to play 24 hours later, something Tuchel was completely against.
We’ve been heavily linked with Tuchel in recent months, with Bild reporting that the club approached the German with a view to replacing Arsene Wenger this summer.
Tuchel is highly regarded as one of the most exciting young coaches in the game, and his style of football certainly fits into our philosophy.
“It’s not a happy camp over there,” Honigstein said on BT Sport’s European Football Show.
“They don’t really see eye to eye. It makes it more likely that he (Tuchel) won’t be at Dortmund next season.”
This season, the 43-year-old has led Dortmund to an unbeaten season at home, as well as reaching the German Cup final after defeating Bayern Munich in the semi-final.
If the board are serious about moving forward, they may well have a respectable, unattached manager to bring into the role.
