Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson has been named October’s Rookie of the Month in the Bundesliga after netting three times and laying on an assist in four appearances for Hoffenheim.

The 18-year-old has taken the German premier division by storm following his season-long loan move in September, following the path of his close friend Jadon Sancho.

Unlike Sancho, though, Nelson committed his long-term future joining joinging Hoffenheim and his flourishing under the tutelage of Julian Nagelsmann.

The young coach was heavily linked with the role at Arsenal following Arsene Wenger’s departure and was seemingly the first choice of Sven Mislintat – our head of recruitment.

Ivan Gazidis later admitted that three final candidates were placed in a hat, and one wonders if Nagelsmann was one of those names considering his knowledge of Nelson.

Hoffenheim lost Serge Gnabry to Bayern and while looking for a replacement, Nagelsmann went for the Arsenal youngster who’s barely made an appearance in the Premier League – perhaps his job application led him to research our younger stars?

Enough of that. Nelson is certainly transforming into the player many thought he’d become and he’s caught the eye of Germany great Lothar Matthaus.

The World Cup winner is the face of the award and speaking of our starlet, he said: “he’s incredibly quick. He is a top striker.”
