Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson revealed that he’s currently doing substantial work in the gym and feels that he’s now become more explosive on the pitch, the Daily Mail reports.

Nelson, who’s currently on loan at Hoffenheim, started the season in sensational fashion, scoring six times in his first eight Bundesliga games.

However, the goals have dried up since then and the 19-year-old has been in and out of the matchday squads, with a recent disciplinary issue leaving him further down the pecking order.

The current international break has probably come at a good time for the winger and Nelson is still delivering for the England U21 side.

Aidy Boothroyd’s side drew against Poland last week with Nelson laying on a sensational assist for the hosts’ only goal of the game.

It was a very good individual display from our academy star and he’s credited his work in the gym as the reason behind his rapid development.

“I have developed. It’s not just on the pitch but off the pitch as well,” Nelson said.

“I’m working in the gym. I went there as an 18-year-old and I was finding it difficult to put weight on. They got me in the gym, they got me doing more weights and I think you can see the improvements in my game.

“I’m more explosive now off the ball. I don’t just need the ball into my feet, I can run in behind and it’s helping a lot.”

Nelson, if he continues to add power to his game, has the qualities we’re literally craving in our squad. We lack pace and power on the flanks, with Unai Emery having to get creative to supplement the dearth of options out wide.

The Spaniard’s favoured formation is said to be a standard 4-3-3, but we’ve lacked the players to play that system this term.

Hopefully, the teenager comes back a different animal in July.
