Arsenal are set to offer starlet Bukayo Saka a new contract…

Arsenal have begun initial talks with starlet Bukayo Saka’s representatives regarding a contract extension with a ‘formal’ expected to follow, The Athletic’s David Ornstein reports.

Saka has just over two years remaining on his current deal, and the club’s hierarchy will be keen to tie him down to a long-term contract this summer.

The 20-year-old’s last contractual situation went right down to the wire with talks accelerating following the arrival of Mikel Arteta which was eventually crucial to Saka extending.

There hasn’t been any indication that Saka or the club are worried about this process dragging on and with very few links in the media regarding a move away, the gifted winger is likely to want to stay.

Saka has often spoken about living his dream of putting on the Arsenal shirt alongside childhood friend Emile Smith Rowe and after the No.10 signed fresh terms last summer, many expect Saka to follow suit.

Having said that, the financial package that’s presented to the England star will be pivotal and securing Champions League qualification will surely have a bearing on what Edu and Richard Garlick can present.

Also, while he’s’ still in the embryonic stages of his career, Saka will want to test himself at the pinnacle of football.

On the other hand, we’ve done well to clear the wage bill in recent years and with Alexandre Lacazette and Mohamed Elneny also out of contract, those finances can be geared to securing Saka’s future.

Alongside Saka, securing William Salbia’s future is also high on the club’s list of priorities this summer ahead of another important close season.
