Riyad Mahrez takes football back to the streets…
Reported Arsenal target Riyad Mahrez surprised locals in his hometown of Beni Sours, Algeria after being seen playing football barefooted with some kids in a narrow alleyway.
Mahrez, the former PFA Player of the Year, is said to be high on Arsene Wenger’s wanted list this summer after asking to leave Leicester City last month.
The 26-year-old isn’t as in-demand as he may have been 12 months ago following a rather subdued season as he failed to continue the form he showed in 2015/16 which drove Leicester City to the title.
Mahrez netted 17 goals from midfield that season, but Arsene Wenger has made it clear that he still rates the winger despite a subdued campaign.
Following our change of formation to a back three, we’ve sacrificed a forward player for an extra defender which makes a move for Mahrez hard to fathom if we’re to keep all our players.
However, given that doubts remain regarding the future of Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, it seems Wenger is intent on adding more than one attacker to the side this summer.
Mahrez is a personal favourite of mine, he remains one of the best in the league at taking on defenders, a quality we haven’t had in our side for years.
I hope Wenger pulls out all the stops to sign him.
