Leicester City winger Riyad Mahrez has responded to Arsene Wenger’s recent comments about him and stated that it’s an “honour” to receive such words from a manager of that stature.

Wenger, while speaking to beinSPORTS, claimed that he was a huge fan of Mahrez and that his admiration for the 26-year-old hasn’t waned following his disappointing season.

Mahrez was named PFA Player of the Year after Leicester City’s monumental title win in 2016, and it seemed then that he would move on to pastures new.

Ourselves and Barcelona were heavily linked, but the Algerian international decided to stay on and even extend his contract.

However, after an underwhelming season at the Kingpower Stadium, Mahrez recently released a statement confirming his desire to leave, a move which prompted Wenger’s initial comments.

While his talents are undoubted, it hard to see where he fits into the team if Wenger sticks with the 3-4-3 system that salvaged our campaign.

Assuming we keep Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil, they will occupy the two floating roles behind the sole striker.

However, Mahrez would give us the option to move to a 4-2-3-1 system, and partner Alexis and Ozil behind a lethal forward – a mouthwatering prospect.

Check out the translation of Mahrez’s comments below:

Reporter:

“Arsene Wenger has come out and that he liked you as a player, that he liked your playstyle and ability. He said that the club didn’t make an offer for you but said that they may sill be an offer ready, what do you think?”

Riyad Mahrez:

“It’s an honour to receive compliments like this from such a big manager [Wenger] in world football.

“But there’s a big difference between an offer and speculation, so there is nothing on the table at the moment.” (via )
