Wojciech Szczesny eyeing Arsenal return…
—————————
Arsenal loanee Wojciech Szczesny has revealed his intentions this summer after spending 24 months at Serie A side AS Roma to gain first-team experience.
Following the arrival of Petr Cech in 2015, it was always going to be difficult to keep all our goalkeepers happy at the club.
There were rumours that David Ospina would depart, but it’s been Szczesny who has taken the opportunity to player week in, week out at the top level elsewhere in Europe.
While some have suggested that the Polish international may not want to return, the 27-year-old has rubbished such talk.
“For now, I’m an Arsenal player so as soon as my loan finishes I have to come back,” Szczesny told BT Sport.
“I’ve always said that I’d love to be back there.”
You always got the impression that Szczesny’s deficiencies lay between his ears rather than his technical qualities as a goalkeeper.
The academy graduate would consistently make avoidable errors and didn’t exactly cover himself in glory with his antics off the pitch.
As he says in the interview above, the loan move came off the back of a “terrible season” which left his career at a crossroads.
Szczesny has rebuilt his reputation at Roma and having kept the most clean sheets in Europe’s top leagues, he could be ready to reclaim his position as Arsenal’s No.1.
