Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly eyeing a Premier League return with Arsenal named as an interested party…

Former Liverpool midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum is reportedly eyeing a return to the Premier League with his move to Ligue 1 giants Paris Saint-Germain not going as planned, Sky Sports News reports.

Wijnaldum moved to the French capital on a free transfer last summer after his contract expired, though the 31-year-old hasn’t been featuring high on Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

The Dutch international has only started nine league games this season, a predicament that led the midfielder to admit that he wasn’t “completely happy”.

Sky Sports reported last month that the Emirates Stadium was thought to be a possible destination for Wijnaldum with regards to a potential loan move.

Mikel Arteta has since admitted that the club will move for a midfielder this January to help with the lack of numbers we have in the middle of the park.

Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are away on AFCON duty, while the latter’s contract is up in six months and is also reportedly attracting interest from Newcastle United (via The Telegraph).

Also, Ainsley Maitland-Niles is set to move to Roma which further hinders the options available to the manager.

Wijnaldum’s quality is undoubted and it’s rather bizarre as to how his move to Paris Saint-Germain hasn’t blossomed immediately.

Also, given his age and knowledge of the league, bringing him for the remainder of the season sounds like a perfect remedy for the problems facing Arteta.

That would leave us free to make a long-term addition in that area of the pith in line with the new recruitment philosophy at the club.
