Sampdoria director Carlo Osti confirmed that the Italian club has sold star man Lucas Torreira who’s been heavily linked with an imminent move to Arsenal, Sky Italy reports.

Previous reports in Italy claimed that everything had been agreed between the two clubs, and that the move would be finalised after the World Cup.

However, BBC’s David Ornstein claimed talks were taking place, but that an agreement was yet to be reached between all parties.

It seems the reports coming out of Italy are more accurate this time given the official line uttered by their sporting director who also stated that Sampdoria were on the lookout for a replacement.

“We lost an important player, but we will find the replacement,” Osti said live on SkySport.

Torreira is currently starring in the World Cup for Uruguay who have been the most defensively astute team in the competition so far.

The former Copa America champions find themselves on the ‘difficult’ side of the draw after topping group A with a comfortable 3-0 over hosts Russia.

It was Torreira first start in the tournament, operating at the base of a midfield diamond in what was Uruguay’s most impressive display so far.

Hopefully, we can push this deal over the line once the World Cup ends.
