Mustafi details Ozil’s influence behind his Arsenal move…

Stan Collymore recently sat with Arsenal’s German duo Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil with the former insisting that his compatriot played a major role in his move to Arsenal last summer.

Mustafi joined from Valencia in August after an arduous negotiation period with the La Liga side and instantly became our most expensive defender in history.

With Lukas Podoski and Serge Gnabry gone and Per Mertesacker nursing a long-term injury, Mustafi and Ozil have become rather inseprable around the club.

Asked by Collymore if “world class” Ozil had a big influence in his decision to join Arsenal, Mustafi said: “Obviously, it’s way easier when you have someone there.

“Someone to say this is how Arsenal is, this is the ideas of the manager. It makes everything easier.”

While Mustafi’s answer was something you’d expect, Collymore referring to Ozil as a “world class” player when the German is in front of him is quite interesting.

After our goalless draw against Middlesbrough last month, the former Liverpool midfielder described Ozil as “overrated” in what seemed a bizarre attack.

I guess these struggling ex-players will say anything to instigate a depate which benefits their radio shows.
