Rio Ferdinand isn’t surprised by our second-half capitulation…
Rio Ferdinand ripped into Arsenal after our damaging defeat in the north London derby against Spurs on Saturday afternoon which leaves us seven points off the top-four.
Ferdinand couldn’t comprehend our lack of concentration following the break as we let the hosts steal a march on us with a Harry Kane goal.
What followed was astonishing. Arsenal looked intent on letting Kane run riot and the Spurs man had two more clear attempts on goal in a matter of minutes.
“Concentration we mentioned at half-time, discipline we mentioned at half-time,” Ferdinand said after the game.
“When they came out they had neither of those. But are you surprised? Am I surprised? Are we surprised in here of this Arsenal team?
“This is what I’ve come to expect of Arsenal.
“You get in at half-time and you think ‘wow’ and they lull you back in again and you think ‘yeah, this is the Arsenal I was thinking about, they’ve got a bit of discipline back.”
Ferdinand’s point is understandable, especially when the new signings in the January window gave fans a feeling of a new era emerging at the club.
However, our defensive frailties continue and it’s evident that no amount of investment can rectify the main issue – we’re poorly coached without possession of the ball.
