Jack Wilshere has made it clear he intends to be Arsenal skipper…
Arsenal star Jack Wilshere has reiterated his desire to be Gunners skipper in the long-term ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.
Speaking to Copa90, Wilshere reflected on captaining the team in the semi-final against Chelsea and said it was something he was calculating before being given the nod by Arsene Wenger.
Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Petr Cech weren’t available for the game, and Wilshere revealed that he then had hopeĀ that there was a chance.
Despite being out of contract this summer, Wilshere is clearly thinking long-term and wants to be named club captain sooner rather than later.
“It was a good feeling, for my family as well,” Wilshere said about leading the team out at Stamford Bridge.
“I’ve been at the club since I was nine and to walk out as captain was special.
“That’s what I want, I’ve said it for years now,” Wenger added when asked about his ambitions about being captain.
“Obviously we’ve got some big players and big leaders at the club at the minute so I’ve got to wait a bit, but that’s something I want to do.”
First thing’s first, JackĀ – get that deal signed.
