Theo Walcott vows that players will not be distracted…
Theo Walcott spoke after our emphatic win in the FA Cup against non-league Lincoln City on Saturday and vowed that the players will not be taking notice of events happening outside the club.
Never in our recent history have we seen such instability surround the club, given that the one constant over the past 20 years – Arsene Wenger – hasn’t decided his future with his contract up in May.
Talk of bust-ups and dressing room revolts have also been prevalent as we crashed out of the title race and the Champions League in familiar fashion during the past few weeks.
However, according to Walcott, the group remains united in their aims to finish the season strongly.
“We’re not going to be distracted by anything that’s going on outside the club,” Walcott told BT Sport.
“We know how good we are, you’ve got to remember that, we’re in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley as well.
“We’re not even going to look at what people say.”
Walcott’s defiance is admirable, but it was he himself who opened the can of worms in terms of an internal row before the Liverpool game after Wenger had denied it.
The 27-year-old also mysteriously went missing with an ‘injury’ days after he openly assassinated some of the players in a post-match interview with US television after our defeat to Manchester City in December.
I guess Walcott’s rallying cry will only resonate with the fans should results improve on the pitch, not after dispatching a national league side at home.
