Arsenal legend Thierry Henry admitted that he was somewhat “happy” for his former boss Arsene Wenger after he announced his decision to step down at the end of the season.
Henry, like many fans, has felt that performances were not up to standard in recent seasons and with the pressure mounting from the terraces, our record goalscorer felt content to see Wenger decide to walk away.
We’re set for our worse league campaign under the Frenchman, which is further compounded by the fact that we’re the only side in all of England’s professional division.
“It was a bit of a mixed one; it’s a sad day for me to see the big man leaving the club, and happy in the way that people are hopefully going to give him the exit he deserves,” Henry told Sky News.
“I think recently it has been really hard for him, and the club, let’s not forget about the club because it’s about them too.
“I hope, starting from Sunday, people are going to go to the game, not only to see one of his last games, but to give him a good exit.”
Failure to win the Europa League would really dampen the mood leading up to Wenger’s exit and it’ll almost be indicative of how the second half of this season has gone.
