Arsenal legend Thierry Henry reminded Gunners fans that the only aim for a club of our status should be to win the league.
After our 2-0 win against Manchester United, our top four hopes were once again reignited though Henry wants to make a point that Champions League qualification shouldn’t be seen as a successful campaign.
Henry took a slight dig at how we conveniently change our aims during the campaign in accordance with our form. For our record goalscorer, being number one is the only thing that matters.
“At the beginning of the season, it’s (the aim) to win the title,” Henry said on Sky Sports.
“Don’t change the way you sing your song. They always talk about winning the title at the beginning of the season, then during the season: ‘well we’re going to try and make top four’.
“You play for Arsenal, it’s the title.”
What’s left to be said in terms of our aims for the season each year when we can accurately predict what will take place before each campaign?
Our aims are usually laid bare during the summer given how we behave in the transfer market.
No club aiming to win the title purposefully leaves their business until the last few days of the window when all our rivals have settled squads.
No club aiming to win the title doesn’t know it’s starting XI for the first game of the new season.
And, more importantly, no club aiming to win the title doesn’t plan for the unfortunate to happen, ie; injuries.
