Thomas Partey has a setback on thigh injury…

Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has suffered an injury setback after the 30-year-old underwent a procedure to treat his thigh problem and a return date is unknown, the Daily Mail reports.

Partey has been out with a thigh injury since pulling up in training a fortnight ago before the Champions League tie at Sevilla, with Mikel Arteta coy on any timeline for his recovery.

The former Atletico Madrid man had only just returned from another muscular injury which kept him out for six weeks, illustrating how unreliable he’s been since joining the club.

According to Transfermarkt, Partey has missed 284 days through injuries since joining Arsenal in 2020 and while his fitness record in Spain appeared faultless, the Ghanaian international has clearly been unable to adapt to the English football’s intensity,

The report claims that due to Partey’s return date remaining unclear and could well stretch into 2024, Arteta is eyeing the January market.

Partey’s recent absence has increased the workload on Declan Rice and Jorginho and any injury to those will leave us really threadbare in the middle of the park.

The FA Cup begins in the first week of January and competing on three fronts will certainly require the manager to have his squad bolstered.

However, following a record spending spree last summer, Arteta and Edu will need to get creative with the numbers in order to steer clear of any Financial Fair Play inquest.
