Tomas Rosicky believes he’s in the frame…
Former Arsenal playmaker Tomas Rosicky has revealed that he remains in the club’s thinking regarding the vacant sporting director position, but stopped short of revealing any serious discussion, The Standard reports.
Rosicky is currently Sparta Prague’s sporting director and has played a huge part in waking the Czech giants, winning back-to-back league titles and guiding them back to the Champions League group phase.
Arsenal have shown a desire to reward ex-players who have the proven credentials to take up roles – such thinking saw us stumble across the dynamic duo of Mikel Arteta and Edu.
Rosicky spent a decade at the club between 2006-16 and left on the same day as Arteta did, with the two players crucial to maintaining our status as a Champions League club and ending our nine-year trophy drought.
The former Dortmund star spoke on his fondness of the club and admiration that he features in the thoughts of the decision-makers.
“So the reality is simple,” the former Gunners No.7 explained.
“My connection with Arsenal is natural because I spent 10 years there, and when you spend 10 years somewhere you form a strong, very strong bond.
“I am honoured by the fact that I am even being considered by Arsenal’s management, but I can say that I don’t have any offer to go to Arsenal.
“As I mentioned before, I’m aware that I’m on their radar or I figure in their considerations in some capacity, but I haven’t received any offer.”
Rosicky’s lack of experience may go against him but he does possess some of the attributes we need for the role – especially considering our last summer window.
Arteta is said to hold an influential voice when it comes to recruitment and that may be because he wasn’t surrounded by equally intellectual football minds.
Edu was a good player in his day but is far removed from the current game and excelled more in his people skills and deal-making.
When the manager says he wants a No.8 and points towards Mikel Merino, who can challenge him that player will not be a good technical for the team? Rosicky would be able to.
