Thierry Henry and Ashley Cole make the cut…

BBC pundits Ian Wright, Danny Murphy and Alan Shearer were tasked to decide the best Premier League XI during the competition’s 25-year history.

We’ve had a number of outstanding players capable of throwing their hat into the ring in terms of such a team, though only two of our former players made into the final XI.

David Seaman, Sol Campbell, Tony Adams, Ashley Cole, Patrick Vieira, Robin Van Persie, Dennis Bergkamp and Thierry Henry were all in contention, yet only two from that illustrious list made it into the team.

Despite having a former great on the panel, Ian Wright chose to vote against former teammates Vieira and Adams, as well as members of the ‘Invincibles’, Campbell.

However, Cole and Henry weren’t to be denied given their complete dominance in their respective roles during the Premier League era.

With five league titles between them, as well multiple cup triumphs, the legendary duo certainly made their mark in England’s premier division.

Such were their impacts at Arsenal, we’re still waiting for definitive replacements for both players – especially in Cole’s case.

Gael Clichy and Kieran Gibbs have attempted to make the left-back slot their own over the past decade, but neither player has convinced, with the latter set to depart the club this summer.
