“We Have Two Really Good Strikers” – Guardiola Plays Down Alexis Sanchez Rumours

Pep Guardiola pours cold water on Alexis Sanchez rumours…

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has addressed the rumours surrounding a potential move for Alexis Sanchez this summer for the first time, and the Spanish boss played down any deal for his former player.

With Alexis stalling on a new deal with only 12 months left on his current contract, reports have been rife that we may look to sell with Manchester City the only realistic option for the Chilean.

Guardiola signed the 28-year-old for Barcelona for in 2011 and spent a year coaching him in a disappointing season for the Catalan giants – especially given what they achieved the previous year.

However, after Arsene Wenger insisted Alexis will not be sold this summer regardless of what happens, Guardiola seems to have admitted defeat in the particular pursuit.

“We have two really good strikers with Sergio and Gabriel. In that position we are good,” Guardiola told reporters in America.

“Alexis is a player from Arsenal. If Arsene said that it is because he knows more than me.”

Handing Alexis over to Manchester City would basically admit defeat in the title race before it’s even begun, something which shouldn’t be worth the reported £50million some say the deal could amount to.

Keeping the Chilean would give us the best chance of getting back into the Champions League, or winning the title.
