Arsenal boss Unai Emery refused to be drawn into Aaron Ramsey’s contract dispute following our impressive 5-1 win at Fulham though he did reaffirm his belief that the Welshman is an important player.

Speaking to BT Sport after the game, Emery shifted the conversation on to Ramsey’s performance on the pitch once he entered the fray and stated that remains the focus.

It has been heavily reported this week that contract talks have completely broken down after the club withdrew their offer to the former Cardiff man, just as he was ready to put pen-to-paper.

Emery wanted to make sure Ramsey still has a part to play this season, even if it is his final campaign as an Arsenal player.

“For me, it’s very important for him to take in confidence and take the first goal today. He’s a very important player,” the Spaniard said after the game.

“And for us today he was not starting in the first XI but today he takes confidence and, for us, he’s helping the team.

“It was an important goal for Aaron and an important goal for us. The best performer for us is every player.”

One wonders what Emery felt about Ramsey when he arrived for the club to refuse to sell him during the summer and what’s changed since then.

The narrative was that Emery felt the Welshman was one of his main men, but he has barely started any league games since our win at Cardiff in early September.
