Unai Emery says he’s been assured that we’ll have a bigger budget next summer…
Arsenal boss Unai Emery has revealed that we will have more funds to play with next summer after the Spaniard was restricted to loan signings in the January window, The Guardian reports.
When the boss dropped the bombshell that there were limited funds available in January and that the club could only sanction loans, it put a dark cloud over the club and had us reminiscing on some bad times.
Also, with the club now in a new space and sponsorship and TV revenue reaching unprecedented levels, a club of our stature should never have to be restricted to loan signings.
However, ahead of a renewal of our two main kit sponsorship deals which are said to bring in a combined £110m alone, Emery said he can look forward to a more lavish summer window.
“The club is telling me that this moment is not good to buy players but the club says to me in the summer it is going to be different,” Emery was quoted as saying.
“And we are going to have chances to take and spend money to buy players.
“The easiest thing for me is to ask for more players but I love to work with my players. My challenge is to improve individually, collectively, offensively, defensively.”
That final quote from Emery doesn’t bode well for the future and gives us an insight into why the board felt he was the right man.
No ambitious manager would accept the job at Arsenal unless they were guaranteed the resources which matched the size of the task.
Emery’s belief in his coaching skills is admirable, but we’re in need of some serious investment if we’re to compete at the top of English and European football.
