Unai Emery refused to confirm or deny whether or not he’s set to recall Reiss Nelson from his loan spell in January instead of leaving him in Germany for the remainder of the campaign, The Evening Standard reports.

Nelson was sent out on loan days after signing a new long-term contract, a move which shocked many given our lack of options on the wing.

It was seen as a chance for him to learn though few could’ve predicted what was to come. Nelson has ripped the Bundesliga to shreds, scoring five times in six appearances.

He’s alerted the whole of Europe with his displays and with our growing needs, calling him back in January seems a desirable option.

It’s certainly one Nelson feels is possible and the forward was quoted as saying that he may return in the winter window: “Hopefully, I’ll come back in a couple of months – if it’s a year so be it – ready to play in Arsenal’s first team.”

However, ahead of our crucial Europa League at home to Sporting Lisbon, Emery refused to be drawn on the issue.

“With Reiss, we are very happy with him at the moment. We follow him every match. We are thinking about how he can help us in the future.

Regarding a potential recall, the Spaniard said: “At the moment we don’t speak about that.”

I for one hope Nelson is brought back in January. He possesses the qualities we lack in the squad, a genuine threat from a wide position capable of taking on full-backs.
