Unai Emery reveals the funds are not available for permanent signings in January…

Unai Emery revealed that we will not be making any permanent signings in January and are only in the market for loans with the club strapped for cash, ESPN reports.

Emery dropped the bombshell to reporters ahead of our Premier League clash at West Ham to confirm a report recently published by BBC’s David Ornstein.

The Spaniard is the club’s head coach and while he’s somewhat involved in recruitment, that side of the club is handled by Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat.

We have been linked with a move for Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez and although the Spanish giants reportedly want £20million for their asset, yet we’re only prepared to loan him.

It seems the club will not sign off on buying anyone this window regardless of our needs which comes months after our ‘restricted budget’ last summer.

“We cannot sign permanently,” Emery told reporters.

“I don’t know his situation now, but we can only sign players on loan,” the boss said when asked about Suarez.

“I know the club is working on possibilities of which players can help us with big performances like we need now.”

Arsenal fans aren’t calling for new signings for the sake of it, the need for quality and fresh blood is evident every time we take to the field.

We literally have no wingers in the squad. Not one. It’s a position which has led our rivals to engage in an arms race for wide players yet we’re threadbare in that area.

Also, in terms of quality, we need signings in defence.

One sincerely hopes that this policy is only for the January window and the club is preparing to invest heavily next summer. That being said, this is the first window we’ve endured since Stan Kroenke took the club into private ownership.

We will no longer know what’s going on at the club financially.
