Arsenal boss Unai Emery has challenged Mesut Ozil to produce his performance against Leicester City on a more consistent basis, Goal reports.

Ozil tour the former Premier League champions apart in three key moments in the game as he single-handedly dragged us back from a goal down to win 3-1.

Firstly, he guided Hector Bellerin’s cross elegantly into the far post just before the half-time whistle to ensure that we went into the break level.

The second half was all his, Leicester City retreated and Ozil’s defence-splitting pass saw Bellerin cross for an open Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to fire home.

And then came the show-stopper. Ozil started a counter-attack with a neat flick, before dummying the return pass to Alexandre Lacazette and then flicking the ball over Kasper Schmeichel for Aubameyang to tap home.

Emery, like the rest of us, was impressed but once Ozil to do it more often.

“For Mesut, it was a very good performance, and a very good victory together. And also we are going to push and demand for ourselves and for him also, this regularly,” the boss was quoted as saying.

It’s important to be a leader in this situation,” Emery added. “But we have a lot of players in the team capable of doing it.

“I think Ozil can play every match with this commitment and with this quality, whether he is captain or not.”

Ozil was skipper for the night given the absence of Petr Cech, Laurent Koscielny and Aaron Ramsey – for various reasons. Emery has thrown down the gauntlet, and it’s time for Ozil to step up.
