Unai Emery: Mesut Ozil Is Helping Us & Working Hard

Unai Emery says Mesut Ozil’s return to the team is due to his work rate…

Arsenal boss Unai Emery spoke glowingly of Mesut Ozil’s recent form after the playmaker started back-to-back Premier League games for the first time in 2019.

Speaking ahead of our trip to Everton in a match that will seriously test our top four credentials and our ability to improve our away form, Emery lavished praise on the playmaker.

Ozil produced a stunning display against Newcastle United to put us in the driving seat in the top-four race, and Emery believes his work rate is matching his technical ability.

The 30-year-old was previously ostracised by the Spaniard after repeated calls for him to up his work off the ball and tactical efficiency.

Despite Emery’s reluctance to single out players for praise, he broke the code for Ozil.

“He’s working very well, playing very well, he’s helping us,” Emery told reporters (via Hayters TV).

“I’m very happy with him. I think the team has a good atmosphere, good spirit with each player helping us with their qualities and good behaviour. That’s the spirit I want, they are doing that, and Mesut is like the others [in that regard].”

Ozil has experienced a recent resurgence, but one waits to see if Emery feels the playmaker is disciplined enough to play away from home.

Ozil hasn’t started a game for us away from home in the Premier League since our Boxing Day trip to Brighton, and rumours were rife that Emery felt he was a liability away from home.

Each game is a final until the remainder of the season and Ozil still has a big part to play.
