Unai Emery remained coy when quizzed on the Gunners timeline…

Unai Emery gave some bizarre responses when quizzed on Mesut Ozil who wasn’t in the squad that beat Spurs 4-2 at the Emirates, ESPN reports.

Ozil was left on the bench in our 2-1 win at Bournemouth last week, with Emery refusing to call upon him despite needing a goal in the second half.

In terms of our Europa League clash, Ozil was never really going to travel but talk of a potential injury was non-existent. The club explained his absence from the squad as a “back spasm” before kick-off, but it’s not something fans are buying.

Ozil has missed a few games this season with minor knocks, but the veracity of these injuries is questionable given Emery’s public comments about the German.

The head coach has often called on his star man to work harder and even gave him a noted warning after his sensational display against Leicester.

It was, therefore, rather odd to see Ozil’s name missing from the entire team sheet for an injury not mentioned over the past few days.

And, after masterminding our win, Emery gave some odds responses when quizzed further on information about Ozil.

“He has backache”, Emery said when asked about his removal from the first team.

Emery was then asked when Ozil suffered the injury and if he was in attendanceĀ during the game, and his response to both questions was “I don’t know”.

Regardless of the injury, Ozil could see some punishment come his way if he didn’t attend the game with a fine issued at Arsenal for first-team players who miss games they’re not featuring in.

This day was always going to come if Ozil’s predicament is as it seems. Emery will not carry any passengers.
