Pep Guardiola believes Gabriel Jesus’ absence will be felt at the champions…

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hailed Gabriel Jesus as one of the best he’s worked with and admitted that the champions will miss him this season, the Spaniard told City TV.

Jesus joined us earlier this month for a fee in the region of £45million and has hit the ground running in pre-season, netting four times in as many games.

The 25-year-old has been an integral part of City’s dominant squad in recent years, winning four Premier League titles since arriving in England in 2017.

The Brazilian has benefitted from knowing Mikel Arteta well from their time at the Etihad Stadium and after being granted a central role in a system he’s familiar with, Jesus is thriving.

For Guardiola, losing Jesus wasn’t ideal and he expects to feel the effects of that.

“Maybe the nicest person I ever worked with,” Guardiola said.

“A huge task to be alongside and compete with the legend of Man City Sergio Aguero. A young, young player from Brazil, comes to compete with him, and he was all the time ready to accept everything.

“He’s the best striker/defender I ever found to play in the three positions. [He] can play five minutes, he plays the best five minutes of his life. He plays 90 minutes, he will give everything.

“I had the feeling that in most cases we will miss him.”

While every transfer comes with an element of risk, Jesus feels like a secure addition to the squad given his familiarity with the league and our manager.

Hopefully, he’s started as he means to go on.
