William Gallas recalls Wenger’s half-time rant…
Arsene Wenger conducted an interesting roundtable interview with three former players speaking from three very interesting perspectives of the Frenchman’s reign.
The most interesting part of the discussion was when William Gallas told Ian Wright he had witnessed an Arsene Wenger rant at half-time, much to Wrighty’s surprise.
Gallas referenced the game at Anfield against Liverpool in December 2009, a clash in which we were put on the ropes for most of the first-half.
“When did you see it? I’ve never seen the boss show any kind of anger,” Wrighty asked Gallas.
“I think it was in 2009 when we played against Liverpool,” Gallas recalled.
“He was shouting at half-time. We were 1-0 down and after his speech, we went back out on the field and won.
“Everybody, all the players, were shocked but it worked!”
A Glen Johnson own goal and a scorcher from Andrey Arshavin gave us all three points and Gallas wanted to point out that the classic hairdryer treatment Wenger disdains can work on some occasions.
According to Cesc Fabregas’s post-match interview following that Liverpool game in 2009, he revealed that Wenger told players that they “didn’t deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt” (via Sky Sports).
Check out Gallas, Wright, Sol Campbell and Wenger’s discussion in the video above.
