William Saliba urges his team to repeat last season’s run…

Arsenal defender William Saliba has urged his teammates to learn from last season’s tough patch which saw them respond by producing a stunning run in the second half of the season, TNT Sports reports.

The Gunners’ defeat to Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon means we’ve now taken one point from a possible nine in the Premier League and leaves us seven points off the top.

It mirrors our form last season during the festive period as we succumbed to the likes of Liverpool, West Ham United and Fulham which ultimately cost us.

The team also crashed out of the FA Cup against Liverpool and that run was only put to a halt by the winter break, with Mikel Arteta able to take the squad to Dubai to refresh.

Upon returning, we put together a run of 16 wins in 18 games that saw us take the title to the final day, though it inevitably wasn’t enough as Manchester City clinched the league by two points.

Though this poor form has come slightly earlier in the campaign, it’s going to take a similar run to bring us back into the title picture.

“We didn’t play how we wanted to pay they were good as well. Today, we don’t deserve to win. But that’s ok. We focus on the next week,” Saliba said in his post-match interview.

“It’s a good goal, a good cross, good finishing. But we can always do better. Today, they scored early goal and we wanted to equalise.

“We have to stick together, last season we had a period like this and we stuck together and had the confidence to get on. We believe that it will come back. We have to be better than the last game. I wasn’t very good then, so I have to be back at my good level. But I have to get back to my best level.”

The accountability shown here is admirable considering his age and should be the attitude shared across the squad because, bar Bukayo Saka and Thomas Partey, the rest are below par this season.

It’s time for the team to stop relying on Arteta’s tactical playbook and demand more from themselves, especially those in the attacking department.

That starts with a trip to Serie A champions Inter in midweek before we travel to Stamford Bridge next week.
