Pep Guardiola responds to Wenger jibe…
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola launched a stinging attack on Arsene Wenger after the Arsenal boss questioned the motivation of certain Premier League teams.
With our top four hopes reliant on certain clubs taking points off the likes of Liverpool and Man City, Wenger felt that certain teams are already on the beach which would hinder our chances.
Liverpool demolished West Ham United in an easy fashion, while Man City faced little resistance from the likes of Leicester City and Crystal Palace.
Guardiola was baffled as to how Wenger could make such an assessment about another club, and also had a simple message to our manager if he didn’t like his current predicament.
“I don’t understand how the managers speak for the other clubs and the other teams,” The former Barcelona coach told reporters.
“Qualify before for the top-four or win the Champions League, then you don’t have any problems with the other clubs.
“Do better during the season and you will not have this problem.”
It’s hard to argue with Guardiola’s analysis and Wenger’s constant moans about teams’ motivation is slightly embarrassing for the club.
It smacks of a manager aiming to deflect blame at every conceivable opportunity as we concede our place in Europe’s premier club competition.
If we do finish fifth after a 38-game season, we’ll have nobody to blame but ourselves.
