Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has had his say on Spurs finishing above us for the first time in over 20 years by stating that he hopes it’ll be a “one-off”.
Szczesny is one of a few players in our squad who really understands the rivalry between Arsenal and Spurs and hasn’t been shy to voice his disdain for the mob down the road.
After we sneaked in front of Spurs on the final day of the Premier League last season, the Polish star recorded a video of himself singing: “Tottenham Hotspur, it’s happened again.”
However, the 27-year-old admitted that Spurs have been better than us this year, though he hopes we’ll restore our north London supremacy as well as claiming a trophy.
“As much as it hurts me to say it they’ve been pretty good this year,” Szczesny admitted.
“I hope it’s a one-off, last year we just got away with it.
“They will finish above Arsenal but, hopefully, Arsenal will finish with a trophy at the end of May.”
That’s the knock many have against talk of a shift in power in north London; the fact that Spurs are yet to end their horrendous trophy drought.
It’s now been a decade since their last trophy, a League Cup in 2007, which exceeds our much-publicised drought from 2005-2014.
It clearly proves that we’re perceived in different lights as football clubs and that our position as north London’s main club remains.
