Arsene Wenger quashes talk of misinformation regarding Alexandre Lacazette’s injury…

Arsene Wenger has responded to claims from Jose Mourinho that the boss wasn’t completely honest about his diagnosis regarding Alexandre Lacazette’s groin injury.

Wenger claimed after our thrashing of Huddersfield that Lacazette was “certainly out” of the Man United game on Saturday, only for the Frenchman to appear in the starting XI to everyone’s surprise.

Lacazette completed the game and found the net, leading to notions among the fanbase that Wenger may have indulged in a few mind games with his claims in his pre-match press conference.

Mourinho certainly thought so, though Wenger moved quickly to quells that theory and is adamant that he only related what was said to be him by the medical staff.

“I thought he wouldn’t play, yes, but in the end, he could play. What did you want me to do, to leave him at home?” Wenger said with a slight chuckle.

“I’m always honest and I thought really he wouldn’t play. He had a test on Friday morning and we were not sure he would play.

“After he tried and he played. That’s part of football.”

And how we’re glad about his quick recovery.

Lacazette is our top goalscorer this season and has settled well in the Premier League, though his potential isn’t being maximised in our current set-up.

The former Lyon man averages 70 minutes every league game, regardless of his performance or the status of the game, before Wenger drags him off for Olivier Giroud.

Also, we could really do more to make use of his sensational movement and pace in attack.
