The French national team have confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette will not be joining up with the squad despite being called up as a late replacement for the injured Anthony Martial.

Lacazette has been absent from the international scene since March and missed out on France’s sensational World Cup campaign.

However, despite a stellar start to the season this term, he’s still yet to receive an acknowledgement from Didier Deschamp who failed to call him up for the September and October UEFA Nation League fixtures.

Now, with Martial sustaining a groin injury against Manchester City, Lacazette was given the nod as the replacement as France look to top Germany and Netherlands in their UEFA Nations League group.

Yet, according to the national team’s Twitter account, Lacazette will not join up with the squad upon advice from France’s doctor Franck Le Gall and the medical team at Arsenal.

It’s yet to be determined as to what’s bothering Lacazette, given that he completed the game against Wolves on Saturday with no obvious sign of an injury.

Any setback would be a damaging blow for us so soon after Welbeck’s major injury and would further highlight our lack of depth in the forward areas.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been compensating our lack of width on the wing, though he would now be required to take up his preferred position through the middle.

Hopefully, it’s just a precaution.
