Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud snatched the three points for us at the death after a rollercoaster of a performance against Leicester City in the opening game of the new Premier League season.
We never seem to do things the easy way and after Alexandre Lacazette netted on his debut two minutes into the clash, we should’ve known that a car crash was around the corner.
Leicester City were level moments later through Shinji Okazaki after Petr Cech misjudged the flight of the ball from a corner kick, something we did little to learn from during the clash.
Jamie Vardy put the visitors in front after Rob Holding was punished for an error midway through our own half, and it seemed we were destined for opening day heartache once again.
However, some lovely football between Mesut Ozil and Danny Welbeck freed another debutant – Sead Kolasinac- and the Bosnian cut the ball back for Welbeck to finish.
2-2 after 45 minutes, the Premier League was well and truly back.
I’m not sure what was said at half-time, but it certainly didn’t result in us regaining control of the game and putting the former Premier League champions to the sword.
Instead, we allowed Vardy to waltz into the area and head home from a corner, something we seriously need to work on.
Arsene Wenger made some desperate changes to the team, introducing Aaron Ramsey and Olivier Giroud while switching to a back four with no recognised centre-back in there.
It paid off in its weight in gold, as Ramsey and Giroud both got on the scoresheet, with the latter netting a header moments before the end to hand us our first three points on an opening day since 2014.
While us fans remain jubilant, it’s up to the coaching staff and Wenger to stamp out the obvious alerts we witnessed throughout the clash.
We were missing a number of experienced options at the back, but our errors came mainly from a lack of shape rather than personnel.
