Arsenal 5-0 Lincoln City…

Arsenal booked their place into the FA Cup semi-final for the third time in four years with a routine 5-0 win against non-league side Lincoln City at the Emirates Stadium.

Having been blessed with yet another simple fixture after defeating Sutton United in the fifth round, we recorded a rare victory in the context of our poor run.

Arsene Wenger fielded a very strong XI considering the opposition, with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Theo Walcott being handed starts.

After a nervy 44 minutes in the first-half in which the visitors had the best chance, we finally took the lead as Walcott exchanged a one-two inside the penalty area with Kieran Gibbs to slot home.

We went up another gear after the interval and Lincoln couldn’t cope, as Olivier Giroud got in on the act to double our lead following a slick move involving Hector Bellerin and Alexis.

Gibbs, who was busy the entire game, forced an own goal for our third after he cutback was trickled over the line by Luke Waterfall.

The game was over as a contest by then, but Alexis was yet to have his say and the Chilean produced the goal of the night with some individual piece of brilliance.

That followed some magic footwork in the area to set up substitute Aaron Ramsey who literally walked the ball into the net.

While another semi-final beckons, replicating this form in the league is vital if we’re to save our season. We’ve lost three of our last four games and head to West Bromwich Albion at the weekend hoping to stop the rut.
