Arsenal have agreed to a sponsorship a deal with streaming service TIDAL, which is owned by rapper and self-proclaimed Gooner Shawn ‘Jay Z’ Carter.
According to Goal, the commercial partnership is worth £1m-a-year for us and widens our portfolio of commercial partners as Ivan Gazidis moves to bridge the deficit with our rivals.
The chief executive has been under pressure to extend our commercial income and soften the burden on fans given that matchday revenue remains our highest source of revenue.
We also benefit largely from TV money, with our sponsorship turnover ranking third in terms of our most crucial source of income which invariably is used to strengthen the team.
The likes of Liverpool and Chelsea rake in more on the sponsorship front, and it’s deals like the one announced today that will see us bridge the gape.
In terms of what this ‘partnership’ entails, a statement from TIDAL reads:
TIDAL and Arsenal Football Club are launching a new partnership, which celebrates the organizations’ shared commitment to developing new talent.
Arsenal members for the 2018/19 season will receive six month free TIDAL subscriptions. ‘Platinum’ and ‘Gold’ Arsenal members will enjoy the Hi-Fi service while ‘Silver’ and ‘Red’ members will receive the Premium service.
Arsenal and TIDAL will collaborate to create exclusive content and experiences that bring the worlds of football and music together.
Jay Z launched a takeover of the streaming service in 2015 and intended for it to differ from other platforms by making it artist-driven and allowing artists to own a stake in the company.
‘The Blueprint’ rapper admitted in 2010 (via NME) that he was indeed an Arsenal fan, which stemmed from years of admiring Thierry Henry.
Here’s to more sponsorship deals in the future which will eventually see us compete.
