Arsenal head coach Unai Emery revealed that the club are working to bolster the squad in January and is eyeing two new additions, ESPN reports.

Speaking after we bounced back from our humbling at Anfield to defeat lowly Fulham 4-1, Emery feels the squad needs help over the next few months.

While BBC’s David Ornstein reported that Emery hasn’t got a sufficient budget in January and will need to wait for the summer before bringing players in, the Spaniard contradicted that claim and stated work is being done behind the scenes.

The Gunners boss didn’t reveal which positions we’re looking to strengthen, though only a simple glance can see where we’re light at.

A defensive crisis and lack of stability in defence means we’re definitely in need of a player there, and not a short-term option either.

Also, following the injuries to Danny Welbeck and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, an already threadbare area needs serious attention and one hopes Emery is looking at a winger.

“It’s not easy, changing and improving our team in the transfer market,” Emery told reporters.

“But the club is working, we are watching different possibilities because maybe we can, if the transfer market gives us opportunities, sign one or two players. But it’s not easy.”

One hopes Emery is referring to the January transfer market when he claims that improving our team “is not easy” given the lack of quality in our squad.

One gripe fans had with Arsene Wenger was his overestimation of the quality in our squad, which lacking behind others and was evident in our league position.

The main difference here though is that Emery isn’t solely responsible for transfers with the opinions of Raul Sanllehi and Sven Mislintat holding more weight.
