Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny has been out since May with an achilles injury…
Arsenal skipper Laurent Koscielny has revealed that he’s back in full training after spending five months on the treatment table with a serious achilles injury.
The Frenchman has been managing the problem for a number of years through injections and yoga, though it finally took its toll on him after the tendon ruptured in our Europa League semi-final clash at Atletico Madrid.
It robbed him of a chance of being in the French World Cup squad that ended up winning the tournament last summer, which further added to the disappointment of the injury.
However, in a summer of mass change at the club, the one remaining constant is that Koscielny is still club captain and is clearly viewed as a leader by Unai Emery.
The Frenchman was the first player to meet the new boss after bumping into him at London Colney a day after his unveiling – Koscielny was, of course, undergoing some rehabilitation.
We can’t say we haven’t missed the Gunners stalwart, and his return to full fitness could see him immediately brought into the first XI.
Shkodran Mustafi, while he’s somewhat improved, is still a liability and Sokratis seems like he can’t remain fit at the moment.
Rob Holding has actually been the most consistent defender at the club since Emery’s arrival and the two could form a solid partnership.
